Aug 4 Who the hell was Cyd Charisse?

Not long ago I heard this question - and it sounded so absurd to me... but then I realized that her last (important) appearance on film had been exactly 60 years ago in MGM's "Silk Stockings". Unike today's dancers she does not turn 32 double fouettees and her technique seems just "adequate" by today's standards ( no "over extensions", Thank God!) but her dancing still holds a beautiful, bright, brilliant quality of movements, flair, loveliness, elegance especially in this moment when the "the communist comissary" Ninotschka discovers the pleasures (and "chic") of lingerie and silk stockings... Beautiful, unfogettable Cyd Charisse!
