(A thing of beauty is) a joy forever: Breno Alves Betz, Brazilian, 7 years old, dancer. By his mother Vivian Betz.
Yes, he was born to shine!
Today I must, as a mother, get this off my chest…
My son, 7 years old, started ballet classes last august (2017). Since then many things have happened:
Praises for the fact that he is the way he is (posture, concentration, talent, attitude…)
Praises for us for being parents that support and encourage him
Bullying from elder people
Bullying from children his own age
Bullying because of lack of education and sensitivity from parents that probably use at home such expressions as “Go to Judo or Karate… Ballet is a girl’s thing!”
Rodrigo Alves and I have met while dancing, we love to dance! I must confess, even though I had never had direct contact with Ballet, that I was filled with joy and emotions when Breno asked to go to Ballet classes! I love Art and all its forms of expression!
If you do not want your son do to something because it is “a girl’s thing” (in your own limited head), at least do not teach your children to judge things erroneously – respect to be also respected!
I must sincerely add that when he asked “to dance”, we have tried to prepare him to this bullying. We knew that Society does not “forgive” – but he is my child, he is only 7 years old and, yes, it hurt a lot because he is still a very young child that has neither the maturity nor the obligation to understand people without sensibility that judge him without any reasons to do so…
Well, we just hope for some reflection and that people think if they can make this world a better place… a place in which your children will live!
I AM VERY PROUD OF MY LITTLE DANCER!
