An evening with Denys Cherevychko (Principal, Vienna State Ballet): the Danseur and his attitude.
At long last, we have managed to find a date for our Rendez-Vous and we met on October 8th to exchange ideas, tell each other the News and discuss so many things that we wanted to since “ages” – we were lucky to be able to meet between „lockdowns“ and spend an enchanting, intimate, interesting evening together.
As one could just say: Lots of empathy in the air!
We met at 6 pm and never stopped talking for the next five hours or more – Loving people with broad interests, this evening brought me lots of fun. From Michael Dennard (Paris Opera) via Jean-Charles Gil, Dominique Khalfouni and Denys Ganio (Roland Petit) as well as Fonteyn, Baryshnikov, „Push comes to shove“, Twyla Tharp, ABT, Robert La Fosse, Gelsey Kirkland, Broadway, Lillian Hellman, „Pentimento“, “Julia” (with Jane Fonda and Vanessa Redgrave), Fred Zinnemann (and God knows what more) we finally arrived at C.P. Snow and „The conscience of the rich“ (which I was reading at the time).
Such fun in an empty city, in an empty Café... such “rich” talk, filled with so many subjects - we vowed that we will not let so much time pass till we meet privately again – there's so much to talk about, so many books to discuss, so many films, documentaries, ballets to watch to together. Yes. Lots of fun
But to be quite honest, I was also very keen to look at the photos from „Swan Lake“ and „Don Quixote“ in Bulgaria, to be more precise at „The Stara Zagora State Opera“ where Mr Cherevychko did an appearance as guest Artist this (difficult) year.
At the invitation from Ognyan Draganov (Director) & Sylvia Tomova (Ballet Director), Mr Cherevychko danced with Anelia Dimitrova (Principal) in both ballets. Any effort to travel and dance this year should be highly praised. Here some pictures - just for the record.
