News from Oslo - Erik Murzagaliyev (Principal, The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet): "Onegin"
Erik Murzagaliyev, who you may know very well from this platform (his picture on the front cover defines for me perfectly what “attitude” is all about, a dancer whose career I have been following for some years since I first saw him as a wonderful Crassus in “Spartacus” back in the times when he was still dancing in Munich. Also in Munich, he danced “Onegin” and at that time I had the chance of interviewing him. You can find our interview here under “From the inside looking out” ( Jan. 26th, 2018)
Sometimes “it all fits”. But not only the stage, the music, the lights, the costumes… in this case the combination of the magnificent choreographical work of the late John Cranko with the emotional “richness” of this complex character created by Pushkin… Just give a quick look at the pictures; you will understand when I say that Onegin is a character Mr Murzagaliyev is predestined to interpret - and yes, I use this word in the basic dictionary sense of it: “to explain something”
On top of it, “the icing on the cake”, coaching by Reid Anderson - a man I much admire for his straightforward ways and manner in representing, caring for and protecting Cranko’s work and legacy - even if it means telling a Ballet director that a principal is not fit enough to dance the main role in “Onegin”, as it happened here in Vienna, preventing this certain dancer of giving a Farewell-Performance and making many people angry with him. A man of character who knows what he is talking about.
Here some moments behind the scenes…
You can also enjoy the complete performance here (just click on the link below), Mr Murzagaliyev’s partner is Miss Maiko Nishino - also a member of the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet.
