To be quite honest: How I’d wish I could read nowadays more Dance articles and critiques with this level of insight, knowledge, sensibility, information… It has not happened just once that I try to read a citique from some of my colleagues (after I have published mine, this is a principle) and find sentences such as “It was good” or “It was bad” (But what? The choreography? The music? The tempo? The costumes? The sets and lights? Coaching, technical level, style ? And and and and… and all this apart from the total lack of any understanding or knowldege of Ballet technique ) or just plain copies of what was written in the Opera Programmes (Even the mistakes… and this is embarassing!).

Finding this old article by my friend Andrew Wentink for “Dance Magazine” made me think of that and of how the level of reporting, of press coverage has sunk to become an embarassing one.
